Escape Routes Guide

Understanding the House Layout

Fredbear's House is a compact two-story puzzle with a driveway, backyard, garage/utility side, locked storage near the entrance, roof ladder, and a broken roof entry into the endgame rooms. Good routes are not about parkour flair — they are about visiting the right rooms in the right order while spending as little time as possible in Fredbear's hearing bubble.

Before optimizing lines, know the checklist in How to Escape and the prop notes in Item Locations. This page focuses on where your feet should go and which path variants exist.

Ground Floor Overview

Entry / Foyer

Main door, sight lines into living spaces, and the locked storage room that later needs the lockpick. This is the highest-traffic danger zone. Never AFK here.

Living Spaces

Living room, kitchen, dining connections. Useful as bait destinations and alternate loops when the hallway is hot.

Utility / Car Side

Garage and driveway access. Expect magnet and car keys routing through this wing. Outside sight lines are long — walk.

Backyard

Box piles for the magnet → lockpick pull, plus approach angles toward ladder-related geometry. Height on boxes matters more than raw distance.

Second Floor Overview

Bedrooms and upstairs storage hold the red key. The second floor is a detour with one job: grab the key and leave. Lingering upstairs while Fredbear climbs is a common wipe. Use Fredbear Behavior cues — footsteps on stairs mean abort and hide.

Optimal Standard Route

Phase 1 — Quiet Entry

Walk in. Drift toward stairs. If he is already foyer-camping, bait with F from a side room with an exit, then take stairs during his commit.

Phase 2 — Red Key Upstairs

Sweep bedrooms efficiently. Take the red key. Descend as soon as inventory updates. Do not "explore for fun" on run one.

Phase 3 — Car Keys

Exit toward driveway/car. Trunk interaction first. Pocket keys and rotate toward magnet territory without celebratory sprinting.

Phase 4 — Magnet

Clear ground-floor utility/garage shelves. Magnet secured → immediately plan backyard approach.

Phase 5 — Lockpick Pull

Mount backyard boxes, aim, pull. If fail, micro-adjust aim/height before leaving the pile (see Item Locations).

Phase 6 — Storage Unlock

Return to entrance locked room. Prefer a bait that pulls Fredbear upstairs or deep living wing first. Unlock, grab wrench, leave.

Phase 7 — Ladder and Roof

Wrench-unlock ladder. Climb only on a clean audio window. Roof → broken section → Freddy room → golden door.

That path is the community default. Memorize it before inventing shortcuts.

Alternative Routes

Speed-Oriented Line

Same item order, fewer hesitations: tighter upstairs sweep, no optional room tourism, pre-aimed magnet angle, immediate storage after pull. Still walk unless spotted. Speed without silence just feeds him.

Stealth-Max Line

Extra pauses at doorframes, longer bait setups, more closet usage. Best for solo learners and high ping. Pair with patient habits from Getting Started.

Co-op Split Route

Up to six players: Runner A upstairs key, Runner B car+magnet, Runner C ready on boxes, Caller on F duty. Rejoin at storage → ladder. Call bait timing on voice so nobody crosses his sprint vector.

Route Decision Table

| Situation | Prefer | |-----------|--------| | First ever clear | Stealth-max + How to Escape | | Know items, die on ladder | Bait-heavy roof approach | | Friends in lobby | Split route with one dedicated caller | | Chasing PB times | Speed-oriented line after 10 clean clears | | Keep losing foyer fights | Wider living-wing loops before storage |

Common Route Mistakes

  • Rushing — noise and missed magnet angles
  • Skipping items — especially car keys or wrench
  • Wrong turns after lockpick — wandering instead of beelining storage
  • Ignoring audio — climbing into him
  • Whole lobby on boxes — blocked aim and stacked footsteps

Advanced Pathing Techniques

Timing Windows

Move on fade-out footsteps, not on vibes. If unsure, wait one extra second — deaths are slower than patience.

Distraction Geometry

Call from rooms that force him through long hall commitments while you take the short cut behind. Study sight blockers (walls, doors) so your leave path is invisible.

Hiding as Route Glue

Hiding is a bridge between route segments, not a lifestyle. Enter early, exit the moment the lane opens.

Mental Mini-Map

Drill a verbal script: "stairs, key, car, magnet, boxes, storage, ladder, roof, gold." Saying it reduces mid-run amnesia.

Linking Guides for Full Mastery

Practice Drills

  1. Ghost the standard route without picking items (path memory).
  2. Live run stopping at magnet.
  3. Live run stopping at wrench.
  4. Full clear focusing only on silent storage approach.
  5. Full clear focusing only on ladder bait quality.

Route mastery turns Fredbear's House from a maze into a commute with a very angry supervisor. Walk the standard line until it is boring — then compress it.
